Robins Getting Bad Press

The Robin is the state bird of Michigan. They are known for the most part as being dumb as a box of rocks but still the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station has named them as the #1 leader for carrying the West Nile virus.

I really doubt their finding and was happy to see that the CDC's lead bird West Nile researcher, is skeptical of the robin's newfound dubious distinction. It's too early to tell, CDC said. West Nile virus has been identified in more than 200 species of birds, according to the CDC.

It should be noted that not only is the Robin the state bird of Michigan but it is also the state bird of Connecticut and Wisconsin.

Why single out just the red-breasted songbird? What happened to the Crows being the #1 carrier of West Nile?

Here in Michigan for years we have been saying the state bird is the Mosquito. Perhaps we were closer to the truth than we knew.
